The bathroom is an easy place for accidents to happen, mainly because of slippery surfaces. Other things that contribute to increased risk of injury include getting in and out of the tub when your mobility is limited and having to stand for long periods of time in some cases.

Here are a few simple items you can utilize to make your bathroom a safer place for the family.

Bath Mats
Bath mats help reduce the risk of slipping in the bathtub or shower. They are usually made of a silicone material that is textured and grips to the floor.

Floor Mats
Water can easily travel outside of the tub with you and create slippery puddles. To avoid this we recommend placing an absorbent matt in front of the tub where you enter and exit.

Hand Rails
Any home hardware store will have these available. They can be easily installed if you have power drill or you can call a professional. Installing hand rails in the tub or shower or even along the walls of the bathroom make it easy to grab onto to something when we are feeling unstable or need a little support.

Stools
Stools are great for getting in and out of the tub easier. Make sure you purchase one with silicone pads under the legs to avoid slips.

Bath Chair
Bath chairs are exactly what they sound like, they are non-slip chairs that provide extra support in the shower or bath for those who cannot stand or sit for an elongated period of time.

Cordless Phone
This is an odd one but in the case of an emergency, it could save you! Keep a cordless phone or your cell phone nearby when in the bathroom so you can call for help if you get injured or stuck.

We hope you find these tips useful in making your home a safer environment.
