Wheelchairs work best for users when they are custom-fit to ensure comfort and mobility, but one aspect that is often overlooked in terms of fit is the lower extremities.
Positioning leg straps, or calf straps as they are sometimes called, make the user experience safer, more comfortable and allow for better alignment of the feet thereby reducing stress on joints and nerves. Without leg straps, there is a danger of feet slipping off foot rests and dangling too close to the ground which can contribute to injuries and accidents.
A single leg strap serves to prevent feet from slipping off the footrests, while padded straps give extra support and cushioning needed for those with pressure issues.
